Notes Black cloth with gilt titles to spine has a small crush mark to the very edge of the fore-edge and a hint of bumping to the tips of the corners. Some faint white scratches and some very light spotting near the edges of the cloth, to both boards. Text is clean and crisp. Binding is sound.

Hardback. Collected, compiled and printed under the direction of Leonard Jay. 55pp. 275 by 180mm (10¾ by 7 inches). Frontis woodcut portrait. 15 letters included here to/from the likes of Robert Dodsley partner in R & J. Dodsley publishers, and the writer and MP Horace Walpole, the Rev Doctor Caryll, VC of the University of Cambridge, Voltaire and Benjamin Franklin. These discussions of paper, ink, moulds and type and lettering give an insight into both the brook and printing trades in the 19th century. The woodcut portrait is by E. Joyce Francis who was at the Birmingham School of Arts and Crafts in the 1920s and 1930s and did several pieces of work for the Birmingham School of Printing.
